Weekly Highlights
1. Over 75 consensus nodes and 1591 storage nodes registered within 14 days of the release of v0.4.4 of the CESS testnet on July 15th. The total storage space of the network has exceeded 4.5 TiB.
2. Testnet v0.5.0 is in the internal testing phase, and will be released once it completes the test.
3. Outstanding development progress in miner punishment mechanism, gas fee, and blockchain explorer, etc.
Project Development Details:
1. Blockchain Network:
Penalty Mechanism for Storage Miner:
- Developed the unit test for penalizing miner’s continuous violation.
- Added Miner Fault Pool and Buffer Pool.
- Optimized the code for the case when the storage miner’s deposit is insufficient.
- The runtime configuration file added the buffer period and the penalty setting. Penalty setting: if a miner’s recurring misbehavior inflicted penalties consecutively for n times, the penalty would be multiplied by x times.
Sminer Benchmark
- Coded a benchmark for the sminer module.
- Calculated the computer resources consumed when executing transactions in the sminer module, and determine the weight to calculate the gas cost
- Optimized the code for data recording and the logic of on-demand storage purchase options.
2. Blockchain Explorer:
- 40% development progress for blockchain explorer in new version.
- Completed the back-end development framework and database construction.
- Synchronized the generated blocks to the database in real time.
- Developed front-end, back-end API, front-end public components
- Designed front-end home page, front-end block list page, etc.
Testnet
- Testnet Overview:
- Storage nodes exceeded 1,800 as of the end of last week.
- The effective storage capacity of the entire network has exceeded 4.5TiB, which has increased by more than 125% compared with last week’s data.

2. Testnet Event:
The miner reward event for the CESS testnet continued as storage and consensus miners can earn points by participating. Points can be exchanged for CESS tokens when the mainnet launches. Click here for details.
CESS Community Activities
1. CESS attended the Polkadot Community Call monthly event with other Polkadot projects, such as Astar Network, Gear, and others on Twitter Spaces, at 16:00 UTC on July 27th. CESS marketing manager, John Humphreys-Ramos, shared CESS’s recent technological development with the audience. The process included CESS deploying its first version testnet on July 5th and releasing new iteration v0.4.4 on July 15th. Over 1,000 storage nodes joined within two weeks of the first launch, and more than 1300 nodes joined within ten days after the iteration. He also mentioned that the new testnet iteration V0.4.4 deployed the EVM module, supporting Ethereum projects’ seamless integration to the CESS chain and enabling testing environments for more applications.
