Weekly Highlights
1. Over 4 consensus nodes and 809 storage nodes have been successfully registered since the release of the CESS testnet v0.5.1 on Sep 6th, The effective storage space of the current testnet has exceeded 40 TiB.
2.Started the development of V0.5.2 which will include the following optimization:
- Adjusting the way storage miners access the network.
- Enriching the status information of the scheduler program.
- Optimizing the verification process of the proof-of-storage mechanism.
- Updating the credit score model of the R2S consensus mechanism.
- Overall code optimization.
3. Great development progress in the blockchain network, consensus nodes, V0.5.2, etc.
Project Development Details:
1. Blockchain Network
- Optimized the file upload process for scheduling miners.
- Optimized file download process for miners.
- Optimized the miner proof-of-space process and completed the debugging
- Completed the code modification related to the chain to realize the chain adaptation to v0.5.2.
- Completed the requirements and design documents for the object storage service
Other:
- Added pallet_scheduler_credit the cycle duration configuration file, and added the historical cycle credit value
- Optimized pallet_scheduler_credit block initialization. When the new cycle starts the first block, it will trigger the calculation of the credit score of the previous node in the previous cycle and save it.
- Completed the vrf branch test of the substrate warehouse, and all consensus nodes including the waiting one all report their generated vrf random numbers
- Added the instruction of cess-develop chain specification, corresponding to the instruction generated by the chain specification of the node that is not filled in
- Completed the forkless upgrade file and data migration tutorial file.
2. Consensus Nodes
- The file backup function between schedulers and miners has been upgraded
- Completed the calculation of the credit score based on the weight of each cycle and the credit scores.

Testnet
Overview:
- The CESS V0.5.1 testnet was launched on Sep 6th. Storage nodes close to 809 as of the end of last week. More details on the blockchain explorer.
- The effective storage capacity of the entire network has exceeded 40 TiB.

Event:
The miner reward event for the CESS testnet continued as storage and consensus miners can earn points by participating. Points can be exchanged for CESS tokens when the mainnet launches. Click here for details.
Community Activities
1. CESS co-founder Jessie and marketing manager John Humphreys-Ramos were invited to participate in the “DOTinVietnam” event held by Polkadot in Vietnam. Attendees at this event included investment institutions such as DFG, Jsquare, and well-known Polkadot projects such as Moonbeam, Astar, Phala, Manta, Gear, and Bifrost. Jessie gave a speech at the event, saying that CESS aims to establish a secure, transparent, and efficient decentralized global data network. Compared to the existing decentralized storage solutions, CESS network includes smart space management, cloud storage management, and data preprocessing. Many advantages include fast data retrieval, a complete business application layer, an innovative consensus mechanism, and a fair incentive mechanism.
2. At 15:00 on October 19, local time, CESS hosted the “obCESSed in Vietnam” event in Vietnam. It Is co-organized by Web3Go, Moonbeam, Phala, and PolkaWarriors. CESS and all other projects discussed the development of the Polkadot ecosystem. CESS works with various projects to facilitate the development of the Polkadot ecosystem and Web3. In addition, CESS also announced the Global Ambassador Program, which accepts applications from technology, community, and event ambassadors. 3. The CESS team participated in the 2022 Vietnam Blockchain Summit on Oct 19th — 20th. Vinasa and Vietnam Blockchain Association organized this event, and it was sponsored by FTX, OKX, Binance, and MEXC. Nick Ting (FTX Southeast Asia), Lynn Hoang (head of Binance Southeast Asia), Helena Wang (head of Parity Asia Pacific), Gala (COO Sarah), John Chen (MEXC Global CEO), etc., all attended this summit.
4. Andy Zou, CESS community manager China branch, participated in the Twitter Spaces “Mystery Round Table Party’’ held by WHIKO ALPHA with the theme of “Web3 Journey of Traditional IP”. Andy shared the recent development and community progress of CESS at the event. As a new-gen decentralized storage network, CESS is widely applicable for most applications of Web2 and Web3 and will eventually become a global decentralized cloud storage network.
