Announcing the Integration Partnership between Subsquid and Gear, a Substrate-based WASM Smart Contract Platform

August 10, 2022 — We are pleased to announce Subsquid’s integration with Gear Protocol!
Subsquid is an indexing solution that enables Web3 builders to gain access to on-chain data on their own terms. Featuring modular architecture and decentralized governance, this is the most developer-friendly and resource-efficient way to build, test, and deploy customized APIs for blockchain-facing applications.
We believe this partnership helps us progress toward our shared vision of enabling more developers to build using WASM for Web3. By bringing Subsquid’s data-processing and API development framework to Gear Protocol, this collaboration is set to make it easier, faster, and more resource-efficient for Web3 builders to utilize indexing APIs for rapid blockchain queries.
A great way to begin building on Gear Platform using Subsquid is to visit the documentation for the SDK, which includes an overview of the indexing service’s architecture and a tutorial on building a squid for WASM smart contract indexing. The Subsquid team has expressed their enthusiasm for helping builders on Gear and would be happy to sync up with you directly to answer any technical questions or otherwise. Furthermore, the Subsquid and Gear core teams have already discussed holding technical workshops together to help jumpstart building on the network. Announcements about these events will be available across the official channels of both projects.
About Gear
Gear is a next-generation WebAssembly smart contract platform based on Substrate. This platform will make it easier than ever for developers to bridge the gap between Web2 and Web3. Gear offers a “blockchain-as-a-service” platform. It will allow you to deploy smart contracts into the Polkadot and Kusama ecosystem in a matter of minutes and for a few pennies. No need to build your own blockchain or win a parachain slot.
Gear’s unique advantage is in the implementation of the Actor model within the Substrate framework. The Actor model enables asynchronous contract execution, persistent memory for immutable programs, and a minimal, intuitive, robust API interface. Persistent memory allows users to drop some of domain-specific features out of the development process, and just write regular programs, speeding up the adoption.
Our vast amount of libraries and examples of smart contracts and dApps makes the integration or coding of new dApps easy and fast, like constructing from Lego blocks.

About Subsquid
Subsquid is a Substrate, EVM, and WASM query node framework. It has the potential to act as the workhorse for any project in the Polkadot and Kusama ecosystem, and its support for other chains is growing fast. The Subsquid protocol includes a network of ‘Archives,’ which constantly monitors and organizes the data on supported blockchains as it comes in, and ‘squids,’ which feed this data into developer-friendly APIs.
With its combination of power, flexibility, and reliability, Subsquid is poised to take blockchain development to the next level. A dApp is only as good as its data, and with Subsquid developers can be sure that their queries are answered efficiently and effectively thanks to its game changing two-tier indexing and retrieval process.
