Gear Monthly Updates: March 2022

March brought about a very important development update. We implemented an internal API that allows us to pause/resume program execution. By doing that, we fixed several tiny bugs, refactoring the code, and a new extrinsic resume_program has been added. This will provide the ability to resume a program by any user/program with enough funds. It is the next step to implementing rent charging for program resources.

Everyday we are getting one step closer to full testnet launch, at the moment we are passing the internal audit and while we will be waiting for the results, we will not be having many updates from the development side.

March has become a significant month for us as we announced an integration partnership with Zenlink. The Zenlink DEX Protocol enables all parachains to build DEX and achieve liquidity sharing in one click. Zenlink DEX Protocol includes Module, EVM, and WASM implementations, of which both the Module and EVM versions have been deployed on the mainnet and they have been looking for active partners to deploy the WASM version. If you want to learn more about this partnership we published an article on Medium. Based on this important update, we organized an AMA with our Founder and CEO Nikolay Volf along with the Co-Founder and CEO of Zenlink Leo Guo. This event was a blast, we received nearly 200 questions from the community, after that 5 best questions for each project were chosen through a Discord poll, and all this was closed by a live Q&A session during the AMA. Gear also took part in Rebase CodingDay. We shared our philosophy on smart contract development, introduced the participants to the practical use cases of smart contracts and presented live programming demonstrations.

Another event we held in March was an online quiz on Telegram. As it was successful, we have decided to hold similar events on a regular basis in the future. All the questions were based on our previous articles from Medium; the community has shown us a good understanding of the Gear platform. So be ready for the next quiz and don’t forget to follow us on Medium!

This month we published two new articles. The first article explains Gear’s role in the Polkadot Network and the second is very important, as it explains one of the Gear’s key-features: the Actor Model and why we use it.

We also held some events for our Chinese community. The first was an online workshop, where we gave a presentation about ERC-1155 smart contracts and explained its advantages when compared with ERC-721. The second was a bit more creative! We held a meme contest and the winners got cool Gear hoodies as a reward!

Few days ago we announced the first Design contest in our community! If you have not heard about it yet but you would like to get involved, you can do it here.

As always we would like to extend our thanks to all the community who are taking part in our events! We are also incredibly excited to announce that we will be hosting more interactive and immersive events in the future, so keep an eye on our updates for more information!

Best regards,

The Gear Team
