Gemini II
After gathering valuable information from the first phase and implementing necessary improvements, we are thrilled to announce that the Gemini II Incentivized Testnet is ready to go live.
The main focus during Gemini II will be testing the resiliency of the consensus and farmer uptime. Several improvements have been implemented to the consensus layer since Gemini I that will allow all new nodes to join the canonical chain and farmers will not need to restart. We will continue to assess these factors during this phase.
Non-Incentivized Stress Test
Early September, the core contributors of the Subspace Network launched the Gemini II Stress Test to prepare for the highly anticipated Gemini II Incentivized Testnet. With many of our community members helping us battle-test the network, we were able to onboard over 1.5k active farmer nodes and gather necessary information to move forward to the next steps.
Gemini II Incentivized Testnet
On September 20, 2022 at 3 pm UTC, the existing stress test network will be converted into Gemini II when we turn on rewards. This means farmers who are already synced to the “Subspace Gemini 2a” network will not have to restart their nodes or resync. New farmers may use the time before September 20 to start their nodes and get it synced.

For this phase, the network will be initially seeded with just 5 GB of history to allow farmers to sync faster and start farming. Additionally, similar to the stress test, the default plot size is 100 GB, which is also the maximum a farmer can pledge to the network. Farmers may lower their plot size to a reasonable size below 100 GB without affecting the farming experience. And since every node will be an archival node by default, farmers will need approximately 50 GB of free disk space in addition to the amount pledged to account for the chain history growth.
Gemini II Configuration Summary
- Initial history will be set to 5 GB
- Max plot size for farming is 100 GB for each farmer node
- Additional 50 GB required to account for chain history growth
Our goal from day one has been to lower the barrier to entry and provide a seamless farming experience regardless of a user’s technical knowledge. After gathering valuable feedback from the community on how to improve the Subspace Desktop Application, we concluded that the next version would require a complete redesign.
Rather than spreading our resources too thin and delivering a subpar experience across CLI and Subspace Desktop, we decided to focus on improving the CLI/Docker experience as a priority. At the same time, the team will take the needed time to build out the desktop application properly while targeting Gemini III for release.
Therefore the CLI and Docker will be the only two officially supported farming methods during Gemini II. For farmers unfamiliar with setting up a node via CLI/Docker, we have a great group of Ambassadors and community members in Discord who will be available to provide support.
Gemini II Rewards
Rewards for this phase will be distributed evenly amongst all unique qualified reward addresses, which means rewards will not be calculated based on space pledged.
Gemini II is about bootstrapping the largest decentralized network together, not about who can sync faster or pledge more space. As a result, we’ve created an incentive model that will unlock ONLY if everyone in our community can come together to collaborate.
As we reach (and hopefully surpass) each milestone together, each qualified participant will receive a higher reward than the previous milestone. Higher aggregate achievement = higher individual rewards!
Conditions
While Subspace Network has been permissionless from day one, we want to do our best to ensure everyone has a fair chance. Therefore, there are three conditions that must be met in order to unlock each milestone.
- The telemetry must show at least 80% of the total node count required for each milestone.
- The total number of unique reward addresses with at least 0.5 tSSC must be equal or greater than the number of nodes for each milestone.
- The total space pledged to the network must be equal or greater than 0.75 PB, 1.5 PB, and 2.25 PB for milestones 1, 2, and 3 respectively. It considers an average of 30 GB of storage pledged by each node.

SubWallet Collaboration
SubWallet is a user-friendly Web3 wallet browser extension that’s built on top of Polkadot.js. It enables access and interaction with Web3 applications on the Substrate framework. You can monitor, send, and receive assets with the extension and they now provide Subspace network support!
Also, to further improve Subspace users’ experience, SubWallet has built and released a Single-chain mode that is dedicated to Subspace farmers. It shows Subspace-specific information with a specially designed interface. Single-chain mode is now available on the SubWallet extension. Check out the instructions here.
Additionally, the Beta version of SubWallet mobile will be released at the end of September, which promises to bring even more convenience to all farmers. Track your rewards on the go, anywhere at any time. Stay tuned!
Ambassador Program
Our Ambassador Program is one of the initiatives accelerating the process of realizing our vision of a community-led ecosystem.
During the month of August, we onboarded a total of 22 new apprentice ambassadors selected out of 1,600+ applicants. On Thursday, September 14, 2022, our Ambassadors held the very first Community Call in the Subspace Network Discord Server open for everyone in our community. Over 75 people tuned in to listen to our ambassadors present updates and share information about community projects.
If you missed out on the event, please watch the video recording on your YouTube channel and make sure to join us for the next one!

Localization Efforts
The core contributors recently added support for new languages for the Subspace Network website. Thanks to our Ambassadors and community members who already completed translating and proofreading the content for Russian and Chinese.
The Ambassadors and other community members are currently working on translating the website into Vietnamese, Ukrainian, and Turkish. If you’re interested in contributing as a translator, please contact one of our Ambassadors or check out the Translation Portal and How To Guide below.
