This is what will happen in the SORA network during the upcoming merge
With the long-awaited transition by the Ethereum network from Proof-of-work to Proof-of-Stake, we have devised a plan to make sure that any outcome of this “merge” is taken into consideration. As mentioned by Dr. Makoto Takemiya on the SORA Daily update given on the 31st of August, 2022 the likelihood of there being a PoS and a PoW version of the Ethereum network exists, therefore, the HASHI bridge will need to be stopped for a few days, while the merge (or split) happens to avoid uncertainty and block finality issues.
We will upgrade the HASHI bridge smart contracts and while we do so, the SORA network runtime will also be updated, so this will definitely be a very busy time for everyone. The best way to start any project is with a plan, and this upgrade is no different. Here is the proposed plan and timeline for the Ethereum merge and HASHI Bridge upgrade (times are approximate and depend on the timeline provided by the Ethereum network):
1. Shut down of the HASHI bridge (making all functions inaccessible) — Happening 1–2 days before the merge.
- Users on the EVM side (either PoW or PoS) won’t be able to use the bridge.
- Bridge functionality will be disabled on Polkaswap.io

2. Wait for the Merge to happen — We will be monitoring the activity closely
- During this time, our smart contracts will be merged with the Ethereum PoS network
3. Restart the bridge after the Ethereum network stabilizes — This will happen a few days after the merge, be patient as this process cannot be rushed.
These three steps are the process we will follow to make sure the merge happens smoothly and users can continue to cross the HASHI bridge into the new version of the Ethereum network (and potentially, a new fork as well). We are standing by for any announcements made by Ethereum or Vitalik himself but in the meantime, you can check the current expected effective date for The Merge here or here (these links have been provided by the Ethereum Foundation, we are not responsible for their accuracy).
In the meantime, the expected date for the Merge is Wednesday Sep 14th, 2022, @21:29:01 UTC, This means:
Paris time (UTC+2): 14th September, 23h29
Tokyo time (UTC+9): 15th September, 06h29
