The core team at Manta Network presented in Berlin, New York, and Hangzhou simultaneously for Polkadot Decoded 2022, Polkadot’s largest annual conference. Polkadot Decoded 2022 was the third edition of the event and was a fully hybrid experience of online and in-person conferences. The locations for the conference included Berlin, Buenos Aires, Hangzhou, and New York; furthermore, community members within the ecosystem also launched Decoded-related events worldwide.

Following the spirit of decentralization, the Polkadot Decoded presentations were selected by voting on submitted presentation proposals. Thank you to all those who voted for us! That’s how we at Manta achieved three presentation slots for Berlin, New York, and Hangzhou.

Mantalorians at the Polkadot Decoded

Three of our core contributors presented at three different locations at Polkadot Decoded, but our global community also joined them via the live stream. Manta’s core contributors showcased the importance of Privacy in Web3 by focusing on three important perspectives:

  • Kenny Li talked about Private Transacting on Polkadot: Manta’s Dolphin Test-net
  • Jamie Deng presented how to Privatize Parachain Assets With Xcm
  • Brandon H. Gomes gave How to Build a Privacy Layer for WEB3 Using Substrate.

Read on for a summary of each talk below.

Private Transacting on Polkadot: Manta’s Dolphin Testnet

Kenny Li, Cofounder | Manta Network

While Robert Habermeier, Polkadot Founder, discussed mass adoption and how to onboard more people to the developer ecosystem, when it comes to mass adoption, we at Manta Network talk about privacy being critical for any adoption, growth, expansion, mainstream, and the next 1 billion users of web3.

Here are some key points from the presentation:

  1. A billion on-chain users without privacy lead to mass exploitation
  2. Lack of on-chain privacy: surveillance, blackmail, stalking, and unauthorized profiling among other things.
  3. It brings everything dangerous about web2 into a world that anyone with an Internet connection can exploit.
  4. Manta is enabling on-chain privacy for web3 using zero-knowledge proofs.
On-Chain Privacy = Scaling Web3 to the World
Manta Network = Scaling Parachains to the World

Kenny also demonstrated how to use Manta’s Dolphin testnet and enable on-chain privacy for web3 using zk proofs.

Privatize Parachain Assets With Xcm

Jamie, Engineer | Manta Network

Manta: The privacy layer for Web 3. Manta is a DOT/SAMA Ecosystem Enabler.

Meaning, that Manta is bringing

Jamie also briefly introduced to Zero-Knowledge Proofs (ZKPs), core to Manta Network’s privacy preservation functionality to enable privacy for all crypto assets (you can dive deeper into The Evolution of Zero-Knowledge Proofs in this blog).

He then explained “What is XCM” and how Polkadot’s architecture allows parachains to natively interoperate, enabling cross-blockchain transfers of any type of data or asset.

Brandon H. Gomes, CTO | Manta Network

Privacy never looks so good ✨

Brandon’s presentation highlighted why privacy is important and how it’s more than just personal freedom; it’s a requirement for most applications. His talk discussed why we need to have the optionality of privacy as a basic part of our applications and how to enable it.

One cryptographic truth is: Knowledge is Power.

“You know a private key, I can sign a transaction → The basic fundamental parts of blockchain and cryptography, and one of the things we can leverage to build these decentralized computers.”

This highlights the need to do the paradigm shift from private keys to private users. The developers’ ecosystem is one of the most valuable resources; after all, they are the people who build the applications that build on our blockchains and bring them to users; that’s where composable execution comes in. Building with privacy and composability is where Manta comes in. Manta is designing (from a first principle) a system that is both composable and private; private assets that are natively composable with public accounts.

MantaPay

The private payment

The fundamental core layer of any blockchain is payment; almost any application, or any transfer of information between users, can be considered payment. MantaPay is interoperable with private UTXOs and Public Account Model.

MantaPay Architecture

We’ve optimized the transfer protocol making it the fastest transfer protocol on earth. We’ve built the fastest Poseidon hash implementation in Groth16.

We’re extending the MantaPay protocol up to the execution layer, making it compatible with the standards for fungible and non-fungible tokens. For example, the ERC-20, ERC-721/1155, and pallet assets are all supported by MantaPay, natively!

On top of this, we can build an EVM+ZKP Execution Layer. Now that we have access to the token standards, everybody who builds contracts with these standards can now build on top of MantaPay.

You can deploy Uniswap, Aave, and other DeFi products that use ERC-20 in the programmatic layer, and leverage MantaPay without any code change on the developer side to generate a private transaction for those dapps.

Polkadot XCM

The Polkadot XCM is bringing interoperability and composability through XCMP (Cross-chain message-passing protocol). Our goal is to make XCM work composable, where you can bring your programmability to our privacy infrastructure!

Manta Network Events at the Polkadot Decoded

We, together with our partners from Astar, Phala Network, Acala, Unique Network, Moonbeam, HydraDX, and Interlay, organized a series of events (happy hours, dinners, and parties) in New York and Berlin to bring on some DOT/SAMA vibes for the in-person attendees.

About Manta Network

Manta Network is committed to building a better Web3 world through privacy protection. Manta’s product design starts from first principles and provides end-to-end privacy protection for blockchain users through leading cryptography architectures such as zkSNARK. While ensuring privacy, Manta offers interoperability, convenience, high performance, and auditability, allowing users to conduct private transfers and transactions between any parallel chain of assets. Manta’s vision is to provide more convenient privacy protection services for the entire blockchain world.

Manta’s founding team is made up of several cryptocurrency veterans, professors, and academics with experience from Harvard University, MIT, and Algorand. Manta’s investors include Polychain, ParaFi, Binance Labs, Multicoin, CoinFund, Alameda, DeFiance, and Hypersphere. Manta is also an official Web3 Foundation grant recipient, a member of the Substrate Builder Program, and a member of Berkeley Blockchain Accelerator.
