Subsquid co-founder Dmitry Zhelezov recently appeared on YouTube channel ‘The Kusamarian,’ which specialises in projects in the Polkadot/Kusama ecosystem, to discuss Subsquid’s history, how it works, and its various implementations.
Dmitry, represented by a trident-wielding Donkey Gang NFT avatar, began by explaining how Subsquid came about, detailing the importance of middleware query solutions within blockchains. Dmitry followed up by giving a run down on Subsquid’s two-pronged approach to blockchain data management and why he believes it is better than an all-in-one solution.
This led onto a discussion about the difference between Subquery and Subsquid, two projects tackling the same thorny issue of collating and organising blockchain data in differing ways. Dmitry explained how Subsquid’s approach, which involves splitting the processes into two parts (indexing and querying) provides better scaling opportunities than having everything handled through one process.
Other areas that were explored during the conversation included Subsquid’s approach to decentralisation, with Dmitry discussing the merits and problems associated with both centralised projects and decentralised ones. He went on to offer some insights into how Subsquid aims to cope with a transition from centralised operations to decentralised ones. There was also a brief discussion on the much-discussed subject of the Subsquid token, with Dmitry offering a taste of just how important it will be to the Subsquid ecosystem in the future.
Subsquid’s various partnerships were also discussed during the 26-minute interview, with Dmitry explaining how Crust and Talisman have already embedded it into their projects and how it has positively impacted them. He highlighted just how flexible Subsquid is and how its use cases post-integration are limitless.
Dmitry concluded by talking about the Open Ocean Council, describing what the council is, what it does, and how it will benefit the Subsquid project for many years to come, especially when Subsquid completes its transition into a DAO.
