Subsquid Basics — How to Become a Junior Ambassador
Here at Subsquid, we believe community to be the major difference between Web3 startups and those that are building centralised solutions. When releasing a Web2 product, companies seek ways, ultimately, to take advantage of users: they take ownership of customer data and sell it to third parties, all while demanding compliance with strict user agreements. Web3 reverses all this, giving the power — and the sovereignty over one’s own data — back to the user.
As a part of the transition into Web3, applications will more frequently be developed by DAOs, which will be owned and administered by the community itself. In the previous generation of the internet, users were the product. In the next generation, users build, own, and manage the product for themselves.
Subsquid Labs — the company based in Zug, Switzerland that is taking care of the initial bootstrapping of the Subsquid data processing solution — has, since its founding, planned a gradual transition for the project into a DAO. An essential component of this changeover will be the recruitment of leaders that will one day make up the Open Ocean Council, Subsquid DAOs democratically-elected governing body.
We have seen from community feedback that there is already a lot of interest in becoming one of these leaders. Today, we would like to provide some more information on how project participants can achieve the first level of DAO leadership. The following is a brief description of how to become a junior ambassador in the Open Ocean Council:
Step 1: Join the Open Ocean Council Program
The incubator for the Open Ocean Council (and for Subsquid DAO as a whole) is the Open Ocean Council Program (OOCP). Currently, all it takes to become a member of this organisation is to join Subsquid’s official Discord server and Telegram channel.
- Discord: http:discord.gg/subsquid
- Telegram: http://t.me/subsquid
Upon joining the OOCP, you may choose to become a member of one of two teams, depending on your interests and skillset.
- Team Sonar:
Complete social growth tasks like social media posts, graphic design, making videos, and organising events. - Team Abyss:
Contribute to Subsquid code on GitHub or through the Quest Management System.
Of course, highly versatile community members are more than welcome to become a member of both teams.
Step 2: Learn about the project
In order for a DAO to function effectively, its leaders need to be well-informed. We in the core team try our best to provide as many educational materials to the community as possible. Team Sonar members are also doing a great job creating this content, which you can find on all Subsquid channels.
Here is a brief list of resources you can use to kickstart your Subsquid education:

You should also make sure that you are subscribed to all official social media channels. Subsquid is a fast-moving project, and updates are sent out to the community on a daily basis.

Step 3: Build your reputation in the community
Remember, a DAO is a purely democratic organisation. All token holders will have a say in how Subsquid is run. If you want to be one of the Open Ocean Council’s leaders, the community has to like you!
Right now, the two best ways to build your reputation are by completing Team Sonar and Team Abyss quests and by staying active on Discord and Telegram. Quests will be regularly posted on Discord. It is also recommended to hang out in the General Chat and in your language-specific channel.
All community participation in Discord will add XP to your profile. You can see where you rank on the leaderboard on the official Open Ocean Council Program webpage.
Step 4: Submit your application
The core team needs to know your intention of becoming a junior ambassador! Luckily, we have made the application process extremely easy. Just fill out the form that is found here: shorturl.at/suBP6
Usually, it takes us about a week to process ambassador applications. You will receive an email from our official account inviting you to complete a few simple tasks. At the end of this process, you will receive the ‘ambassador applicant’ role on the Subsquid Discord. Usually, ambassador applicants receive junior ambassador status after two-to-four months of active participation in the community.
