April 15, 2022 — Today, we are delighted to announce to launch of AstarPass! One of the biggest challenges for new dApp projects is attracting users. With AstarPass, we are looking to solve that problem. AstarPass is a tool that enables dApps to tap into Astar’s established community while providing perks to its users. For users, AstarPass is a way to get exclusive offers that would otherwise not be available.
⭐️ What Is AstarPass? ⭐️
On a technical level, AstarPass is the mapping between your Astar Native Address* and your Astar EVM address**.
On a practical level, holding an AstarPass allows dApps on the Astar public blockchain to offer you exclusive perks and benefits for staking your tokens on them. As a nominator (i.e. dApp staker), dApps can reward you with NFTs, airdrops, access to events, and much more.
AstarPass is the front-end implementation for AstarBase and will allow users to connect with Polkadot and an EVM wallet (i.e. MetaMask), and at the same time write address pairs to the EVM smart contract. The EVM smart contract (AstarBase) will verify on-chain that those addresses are valid and that users are participating in Astar dApps staking.

Why Did We Create AstarPass?
Our objectives behind AstarPass are as follows:
- To bring more EVM dApp users to Astar Network
- To motivate people to participate in the Astar ecosystem
- To enable EVM dApps on Astar to attract and reward users
- To encourage dApps users to use our dApps staking mechanism
The beauty of AstarPass is in its versatility and in that it can serve a multitude of functions and evolve as our ecosystem grows. AstarPass holders will benefit from exclusive offers and perks. One way AstarPass can be used is by dApps programming NFT smart contracts and enabling the minting of those NFTs only by users that have an AstarPass. GameFi dApps can also leverage AstarPass to attract more users by dropping exclusive items to them. Similarly, Metaverse projects can give free avatars or land to AstarPass holders.
How to Claim Your AstarPass
Map your accounts
- To map your accounts, you need to visit our AstarPass registration page.
- Click on ‘Connect Native Wallet’ and select the wallet you use for dApp staking (see image below)
- ‘Connect MetaMask’, select your wallet and follow the instructions in your MetaMask.
- The final step is to ‘Register to AstarPass’ and sign your transactions. Make sure you have a gas fee on both accounts. Don’t have any gas available? Use our Faucet that you can find in our Discord.
- After both transactions are approved you will see the following message: “Congratulations! You now hold the AstarPass. Use it in the Astar ecosystem to claim rewards. Note, AstarPass is valid as long as you are an active staker in dApps staking.”.
- During the AstarPass campaign, you can now ‘Claim a Free AstarPass NFT’.
Claim your NFT
After clicking on the claiming button you are now on the minting page. The first step is connecting your MetaMask wallet.
When you are connected you will see if you are eligible to mint the NFT for free because you are staking in our dApp staking mechanism or if you need to pay for your NFT. Do you see a green checkmark? Congrats! Thanks a lot for your support. If you just want to buy the NFT, you can mint it here.
Now you can mint your NFT, sign the transaction and view it on TofuNFT.
Important notes:
- You can only map 1 native account to 1 EVM account. If you connect a new native account to your already used EVM account, this will overwrite the previous mapped address.
- Your AstarPass is only valid as long you are an active staker in our dApp staking mechanism.
- AstarPass is available for non-ECDSA accounts so if you got an error ‘signed message not confirmed’ during the registration process, please double check if you are using an ECDSA account. If you do not know what is ECDSA account then you most likely do not have this kind of problem. The workaround for this error is to move your staked funds to a new account and register with that new account.
