Overview
Today, Gate.io integrated Astar EVM on their exchange. Having EVM integration on Gate.io makes it much easier for our EVM projects’ community to use their dApps on Astar Network.
Multi-VM Win
Astar is the only smart-contract parachain in the Polkadot ecosystem that supports multi-virtual machines (WASM and EVM). It’s a challenge to have two different address schemes in one blockchain for our projects and our users. Recently, our CTO created an article explaining the usage of those addresses.
Gate.io is the first exchange that provides the solution for Polkadot parachains to use both address schemes from one parachain (L1 blockchain) in their exchange. Users can now use Gate.io to transfer funds from their native address to the exchange and from their EVM wallet (i.e. MetaMask) to the exchange and vice versa.
The upside of having EVM support on an exchange is huge, it improves UX for the projects building their dApps in the Astar EVM environment. With this development, users don’t to learn about Substrate native addresses, but rather simply use MetaMask the same way they are doing now.
Instructions
When visiting the deposit/withdraw section on Gate.io and selecting the $ASTR token, you can choose ‘Astar Native’ and ‘Astar EVM’.
Astar: use this for all native transactions in our network. An example of an address is Zk9xUzYVM2pkXtZUSv3XtjvxzPNiYvMFAedm7edusfVNPCm . It’s a Substrate native account, and they are in SS58 format.
Astar EVM: use this for all transactions in our EVM network. With dApps that require MetaMask. An example of an address is 0x704C9ec58d8D18778fBf5135472BBC6AE4d8Ec33 , starting with 0x. It’s an EVM account, and they are in H160 format.
BE CAREFUL! DO NOT send funds from your native address to Astar EVM on Gate.io! Doing this will result in losing your funds.
